

MBCE’s engineers have significant experience of acting as structural engineers and designers on a range of retail structures.
These have included city centre shopping centres, out of town single storey sheds new build, extensions and cut and carve of existing structures. This experience has been gained both within MBCE and elsewhere.

New build retail park on steeply sloping brownfield chalk site in Luton. The project included a significant site preparation phase including demolitions and ground remodelling.
“Cut and Carve” Works to shopping centres: Arndale Centre, Manchester; Bentall Centre, Kinston Upon Thames; The Galleries Bristol; The Shires Leicester; Union Centre Wednesbury.
Design of structural modifications to existing shopping centres to accommodate retailers with new floors, staircases, lifts escalators etc. Varies from £400,00 to 1.5m.
Helical Retail and other current Retail Developments
The practice is now working for Helical Retail and other developers on a number of retail schemes from £1.2 to £8m These include city centre redevelopment with retained elements of existing structure and mixed residential retail accommodation as well as single storey stand alone units.
